24 Dates in 2024 – Date #4

Indigenous art in pulled my attention everyday!

Let’s do some Sam math. How many dates is Date #4 of the 24 dates in 2024 when the date is 7 days long, going west at 575 mph with an altitude of 5280 ft?

It’s one colossal date rolled into a black history moment during Black History Month at a scientific conference. There is A LOT going on here!

Skip the Sam math! ( clearly not my thing!)

Ken and I are in the Rocky Mountain region of Denver, Colorado, at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences Conference, where he is residing as the first African American AAFS President in the Academy’s 76-year history.

His theme and challenge to the Academy for a solid year has been “Justice For All.” This date may not be the height of “amusement,” but it has been an elevated one!

We are over 5000 ft above sea level and Ken has reached the peak of a mountain top within the AAFS paving a way for others. We feel the altitude of the space and moment!

It’s a rocky mountain high in so many ways.

Our Denver date has been more like parallel toddler play with Ken speaking and attending to members questions, while I enjoy some downtime with hotel amenities, Denver mountain scenes, and watching him do his thing.

The whole idea behind 24 Dates in 2024 was to intentionally spend time with each other, and although we aren’t locked arm and arm for hours on end, we have these moments of genuine connection.

Those in-between what’s next: glances, quick kisses before the next talk, podium smiles, and even some tears shared for the moment’s weight have been intimately emotional.

When your person shows up for you- it’s love expressed tangibly. It says, I see you, I am here, I recognize what you are doing, go ahead and shine brightly, and I’m proud of you.

I usually end each blog with, did we like where we went and would we go again. Honestly, I barely explored Denver. The hotel had Starbucks and killer hot tub vibes all week! No need to go anywhere with Bubba Gump across the street.

I’ll wrap with – would we go where our person’s passions are on display, where they are in their element, watch them do their thing and soak up the joy that comes from that place?

That would be a yes and yes!
