24 dates in 2024 – Date #5

It’s March Madness season, and what better way to celebrate than courtside at a college basketball game? Date #5 of our 24 Dates in 2024 took us Northbound from South Jersey to cheer on our new favorite Jersey college team, the bracket-breakers of 2023, who made it to the Sweet 16 last year, The Princeton Tigers.

But first, what’s a date without some food? Our Pre-Game fill spot, The Princeton Soup and Sandwich Company, located on Palmer Square, was quite tasty. College fare cuisine accolades are mythical, but on a cold, wet day, that soup and sandwich hit all the right spots with a clean, home-cooked flavor and significant portions.

After warm, tasty grub, we hit the arena, where the echoes of cheers and high-pitched sneaker squeaks filled the air. There is something magical about college basketball. The players are incredibly talented and skilled, and the competition is intense but respectful. It’s the sportsmanship and energy of a college game for me. The crowd’s energy got me moving, and the talent on the court was electrifying to watch.

It was a close game, and Princeton won by a few points, but as the final buzzer sounded and the crowd erupted into applause, I knew this moment was not about basketball or a warm bowl of soup. Creating memories and enjoying time together is a slam dunk.

PS. We’re having a mini-date tonight with Alabama and UCONN playing. It’s going to be a tense couple collision between a Souther Gentleman from Alabama and a proud Husky who graduated with Ray Allen and Rebecca Lobo.
