24 Dates in 2024 – Date #23

New York, New York, the city that never sleeps and home to Broadway, has a distant cousin producing musicals that draw in thousands of people from all over the globe to the most unlikely place.
Welcome to Lancaster, PA, the charming home of Sight and Sound. A once-upon-a-time dairy farm turned production center of live entertainment for the past 50 years. The campus, nestled in the picturesque countryside, houses two theaters, a film studio, a streaming platform and breathes life into bible stories.

Our 23rd date of our 24 dates in 2024 was a multi-media-music-theater immersion in the powerful story of Daniel. Let me be clear: whatever preconceived notion you might have of a bible based production – chuck it out the window.
This is not the local church’s best attempt, thus the comparison to Broadway above.
Let’s first address that attempting to showcase Daniel’s complex life is challenging enough—from the moment of captivity to chronic threats to his life, clinging to his faith in God through every regime change, thriving among lions figuratively and literally. Daniel’s life is a story worthy of the big stage and screen.

The staging was not just massive, but also meticulously detailed, engaging, and eye-popping. There were moments when I felt I was not just watching a production, but standing among the Israelites. The talented actors and musicians left their God-given gifts on that stage, and the entire ensemble was nothing short of Tony-award-winning.
As Daniel wraps up on December 31st of this year, there is an eager anticipation of a new production titled Noah, set to launch in the Spring. This is the second time Ken and I have been to Sight and Sound, and we can confidently say that no matter what production is running, you will not be disappointed in attending.

Before show time, Ken and I found Cafe 23, a coffee shop tucked away in the loft of the beautiful HF Resort, only a rock throw away from the Sight and Sound campus. It is a super chic but comfortable space to snack on sandwiches and coffee, of course. But the only thing you need to know – chocolate whoopie pie!
